About Laikipia Plateau

LEWA CONSERVATION

Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, spanning 65,000 acres, offers stunning views of Mt. Kenya and varied landscapes. This sanctuary harbours diverse wildlife, with over 70 mammal species, including a significant rhino population. It's renowned for successful breeding programmes, benefiting endangered rhinos and Grevy's zebras.

Lewa's conservation efforts extend to the community, focusing on healthcare, education, and more. Initially a cattle ranch, it transitioned into a conservation stronghold, inspiring similar initiatives in the region. The Anti-Poaching Team, featuring tracking dogs Ruby and Sacha, plays a vital role in safeguarding wildlife and communities.

Lewa exemplifies a harmonious blend of conservation and community development.

SUSTAINABILITY

Elewana Collection is proud to be the sole tourism partner to Loisaba Conservancy, a 57,000-acre wildlife reserve in northern Kenya's Laikipia. Their goal is integrated conservation for both nature and people, promoting peace and security in the Ewaso ecosystem. Their mission: protect wildlife, habitats, support sustainable livestock, and enhance the neighbouring communities.

LOISABA CONSERVANCY

Loisaba, on the Laikipia plateau, spans 230 Km2 with diverse landscapes. Recent ownership by the Loisaba Community Trust, aided by The Nature Conservancy and partnered with Space For Giants makes it a conservation hub. It offers three unique accommodations: Loisaba Tented Camp, Loisaba Star Beds, and Loisaba Lodo Springs.

ANTI-POACHING UNIT

In collaboration with The Nature Conservancy, Loisaba's anti-poaching team includes four sniffer dogs and handlers. Warrior, Machine, Memusi and Nanyokie, highly trained bloodhounds, assist in tracking and security. Guests at Loisaba can witness these remarkable dogs in action during tracking demonstrations. Bloodhounds' exceptional sense of smell and specialised traits make them superb trackers.
